A Border-Collie In Brisbane - Chapter 42 - Bluralto90 (2024)

Chapter Text

“Bluey, we’ve been dating for a while now. Almost six years now. You’ve always been next to my side and I’ve always stuck by your side. When I’ve been struggling through hard times in my life, you’ve always been there, and I love you so much for that. So, that’s why I’m here asking you this question.” I opened the box.

“Princess Bluey Christine Heeler, will you make me the happiest dog in the world, and will you marry me?” I asked softly.

Bluey had her paws slapped over her muzzle. I could see tears forming in her eyes.

“Yes! YES! OH MY GOSH, YES!” Bluey ran over to me and into my arms.

“I love you so much, Mackenzie. Yes, I will marry you.” We broke the hug briefly and met for a sweet kiss. Our lips have met several times before, but there was something about this kiss that was so different. So special. The beautiful night sky, coupled with the soft, blowing wind, the moon shining down on us. It all felt so perfect.

As we broke the kiss, I pulled out the ring box once again and carefully took out the ring. With the same amount of care, I put the ring on Bluey’s finger. It slid on with ease. It was a perfect fit. This is it. I’m now engaged to the love of my life.

Now that we’re engaged, Bluey and I took our seats at the bench and just looked at the view. There is no one else in the world except me and my lover who is leaning on my shoulder. As I wrap my arm around her, I also lean my head on hers.

“I love you, Mackenzie. I always will.” Bluey lifted her head to face me.

“I love you too, Bluey. I love you tenfold. I can’t see myself not loving you. Not in a trillion years.” I returned to her, brushing a single strand of fur from her eyes. After the hair was moved, I cupped her cheek and met her for a quick kiss.

“Do you wanna go back to the hotel and tell everyone?” I asked her.

“Hmmm… Nah. Let’s stay here for a little longer.” Bluey said quietly as she leaned her head back on my shoulder. I didn’t stop her.

“Alright then. We’ll stay up here for as long as you’d like.”

“Hey, Kenzie?”

“Yes, Blue?”

“Thank you. Thank you for everything.”

“Awww thanks. And thank you for everything.”

“Hey, Blue?”

“Yes, Kenzie?”

“When we do marry, what will happen to me? Like, will I become king? Will I still be a commoner?”

“Oh. Well, I’m not sure. My dad would know. If I were to guess, you would probably become king.”

“Oh, I see…”

“What’s the matter? Isn’t that exciting? You get to become king and join royalty.”

“Well, it all seems nice, but I’m not suited to rule Brisbane.”

“Hey.” Bluey put her paw on my knee. “It’ll be okay. Dad will teach you.”

“I suppose so.”

“Hey, Kenzie?”

“Yeah, Blue?”

“Can we head back now?”

“Yeah, righto’. Let’s head back.” Bluey and I got up and began our walk back to the car. The walk back was very quaint. We didn’t see any other animals, just the same flora and the same creek. We got back in the car and drove back to the hotel.

We didn’t listen to any music on the drive. Instead, Bluey and I chatted about all the good times we’ve had throughout our time being together.

We reminisced about good times together. Stuff like when we played our instruments together, each other’s birthdays, the first time we saw each other’s places. I was befuddled by Château Heeler’s sheer size. We also reminisced about some difficult times we got through together. Things like when I cut myself, Bluey visited me every day. When Lucky beat me up, Bluey got incredibly defensive over me and berated Lucky.

I haven’t talked with any of them in a while. Judo, Coco, and Lucky kinda disappeared after high school. I hope they’re doing well. I heard that Coco and Snickers broke up not too long after graduation. I haven’t seen Judo since high school. I kinda wish I could go back and stop myself from sending that text. I ruined her life. I wish I could apologise.

“Hey, Kenzie. Are you okay?” Bluey rubbed my shoulder. She heard my breaths start to grow faster and more rapid.

“Umm… I’m just thinking about high school.” I responded a little quietly.

“Oh? Anything in particular that made your breaths increase?” She responded, moving her full attention to me.

“…Judo, Lucky, Coco.” Bluey took a slight inhale from hearing those names she hadn’t heard in years. I pulled over to the side of the road and put my paw to my eyes. “I ruined their lives… didn’t I?”

“Oh… I don’t know. I know that Judo went to another school and Lucky got expelled. But remember when we saw Lucky at the bowling alley?”

“When was that?”

“Our first date, silly.”

“Oh, yeah. Anyways, what about Lucky?”

“While you went to the bathroom, Lucky was bussing tables nearby. I walked up to him and we began chatting. In that, he told me that Judo went to another school, so that’s how I know that. He also told me that she was sorry.”

“Why? Why should she be sorry? I did it. That was all my fault! I spread that f*cking true rumour and ruined her life. I should be apologising.”

“I know that you still feel guilty about it, but she’s probably doing a lot better now. She’s sorry and you’re sorry. It’s okay. In all realness, she probably doesn’t think about it anymore.”

“I guess you’re right…”

“It’s okay. Let’s have a fun night. You just got engaged and now we get to tell everyone. They’re going to be thrilled.”

I took a big sigh. “As always, you’re right. Let’s go.” I shifted the car back into drive and we headed back to the hotel.

After about 45 minutes of driving, we finally made it back to the hotel. We held each other’s paws as we awaited to tell everyone. We opened the door to our suite. Unsurprisingly, everyone was still there.

“Hey! There they are.” Bandit cheered, pointed at us.

“Hello. What did we miss?” I asked everyone.

“Nothing much. How did your little tour of the city go?” Chilli asked.

“Well, we actually visited nana and grandad.”

“Oh, you did? How are they doing?” Mum asked me.

“Yeah, they’re good. Anyways, after we visited them, I took Bluey to look at my old primary school when I lived here. Finally, I took her to a very special hiking trail that has a beautiful view of the city.”

“Oh, that sounds nice. Did you do anything else?” Frisky asked.

“Well, I guess we do have some big news.” Bluey said, raising her right paw revealing the very engagement ring I proposed with. Everyone’s jaws dropped.

“OH MY GOSH!” Chilli shouted, prompting everyone to come over to hug us and congratulate us for our engagement.

“Congrats Mackenzie. I saw it coming eventually.” Stripe patted me on the back.

“Yeah, mate. Congratulations.” Rad also patted me on the back.

We stayed up for a few more hours. Eventually, Bluey and I went to bed.

“Hey, Bluey?”

“Yes, Mackenzie?”

“I love you.”

“I love you, too,”
